Mazda’s journey towards electrification is gaining momentum with the anticipated launch of a new electric vehicle in 2025. Speculation is rife that this new EV might be an electrified version of the beloved CX-5 compact SUV, marking a significant step forward in Mazda’s electric vehicle (EV) strategy. Although information on the new EV is extremely scarce, here’s what we know so far at Safford Mazda of Fredericksburg, VA!
Design and Innovation

Mazda’s first EV (if you don’t count the MX-30 compliance car), the 2025 electric CX-5 is expected to be a fusion of Mazda’s renowned KODO design philosophy and advanced electric technology. This crossover, aligning with Mazda’s ongoing refresh spree, might also offer a hybrid variant, broadening its appeal.
Charging & Accessibility

To stay ahead of the competition, Mazda plans to adopt the NACS (Tesla) charging standard by 2025. This shift will allow Mazda EV owners to access Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network, improving the convenience of Mazda EVs.
A Unique Powertrain Twist

Mazda has already dipped their toes with rotary range extenders with the MX-30, and it seems they are now ready to fully submerge themselves. The rumored rotary range extender could provide a unique solution to range anxiety to the 2025 CX-30, offering efficiency and fewer nervous glances to the battery meter.
Pricing & Availability
Knowing Mazda, the 2025 CX-5 will most likely be competitively positioned in the EV market, potentially starting in the $40,000 range. This pricing strategy would place it in direct competition with similar compact SUV EV models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ford Mustang Mach-E.

Just because the MX-30 won’t work for everyone doesn’t mean it can’t work for anyone. I’ve had mine for a year without issues. I level one charge it once a week and knowing where to fast charge is important if I’m going out of the city. It’s been rock solid reliable. No software issues and it’s a Mazda with help from hitachi and Panasonic. This is our only car as well. No $1.60 per litre gas for me.
