Spring has finally sprung.

Although it may not feel like it just quite yet DMV temperatures are warming slowly. The 2022 DC Cherry Blossom Festival is starting soon! Arguably the most popular event besides the inauguration, the DC Cherry Blossom Festival is a great chance to take in the beauty of Washington DC. Gifted to the United States by the Mayor of Tokyo in 1912. Today 3,700 blossoming trees are planted along the National Mall for visitors to enjoy.

The most popular spot to enjoy the spring blossoms is walking along the Tidal Basin next to the Thomas Jefferson Memorial and the Martin Luther King Memorial. Pink and white trees wrap around the basin and its walking path. The flowering branches stretch like clouds above spectators’ heads and rain down delicate pink and white petals. This year’s peak bloom is anticipated to be March 22 – 25, 2022.

Blossom Kite Festival – March 26th
Cherry Blossom Festival Parade – April 9th
Sakura Matsuri Japanese Street Festival April 9th – 10th
Petal Petalpalooza Firework Show – April 16th

The Opening Ceremony requires a ticket to attend but will also be live-streamed online. Cherry Blossom Festival Parade tickets to reserve a viewing space but here are also free-standing areas available. Visit the official website for tickets and more details.
