Get Ready To Drive Through Fall Safely
The cool weather is coming quickly, and it’s important to get your car ready for the change in the weather and road conditions. Be sure to check these items and schedule service as needed to get your car ready.
Check Wiper Blades
It can be quite rainy in the fall, so it’s a good idea to make sure that your wiper blades are in good shape to handle the fall showers. To check your wiper blades on a dry day, you can use the wiper fluid/cleaning function to observe the wipers. Look to see if the wipers are streaking, chattering, smearing, squeaking, or if the rubber has split. If you notice any of these things, grab a new set of wiper blades the next time you’re at the store. If you have rain-sensing wipers, you’ll need to special-order the proper blades.
Check Fluids
Your car needs proper fluids, especially the coolant, all year long. However, your coolant makeup will need to change to handle winter temperatures and needs. In the winter, the ratio between water and coolant should be 40% water and 60% coolant. Our team at Safford Mazda can ensure that your car has the proper coolant levels and ratio.
Check Tires
Your tires are even more important in the fall and winter, so it’s a good idea to check the tread depth before the weather gets cool. If you have summer or all-season tires that you use in the warm months and winter tires that you use in the colder months, it’s a good idea to check the tread depth on all sets of tires. If you just need a general check to see that the tread is OK, you can use a penny or quarter – if the tread touches/covers the head of the coin’s face, your tread is good enough to keep driving on the tires. If you want a more accurate assessment of your tread, you can purchase a tread depth gauge for under $10.
